How to Optimize Your Videos for Search

Video content is king right now. In fact, videos are projected to dominate 80% of web traffic by next year. If your practice is taking advantage of this massive opportunity, excellent. But it’s not enough to just make videos – you need to make sure your videos are search engine optimized. Title

Our eyes are drawn to titles first. So, your titles should be compelling and concise, but most importantly, they should match common search terms. Conduct some research to find popular search terms for your industry. So, if your video is about reasons your patients should get Invisalign, then the keyword “Invisalign” or other popular phrase variations, should be included in your title. Also, focus your titles around your audience. If your audience’s internet activity is centered around particular language, use it. Between researched search terms and audience-specific wording, you’ll be able to craft a compelling, search engine optimized title..

Description

While Youtube’s description character limit is 1,000 characters, it only displays about the first 100 without having to click a drop-down arrow. Take advantage of those first 100 characters by including the most relevant and practical information. We recommend including a link to your website and a catchy call-to-action. Then, use the other 900 or so characters to incorporate locations and keywords that will boost your SEO and search relevance.

Tags

Tags are a great resource to direct your target audience to your videos. Same with any form of SEO, top industry search keywords are best to include here, so that it triggers Google to suggest your video to searchers. So, it’s good to use tags like “Orthodontist”, “Invisalign”, or “Braces”. Be careful about relevance with tags, though – Youtube can penalize you for including tags that aren’t relevant, which will hurt the changes of your video being seen. Keep your tags orthodontia-specific, and particularly specific around the content of your videos.

The Formula

At Ortho Marketing, our SEO writing team has an educated formula for crafting the perfect URLs. We’re happy to pass this knowledge onto you. Here’s the formula you should stick to:

www.nameofyourwebsite.com/search-keyword-fake-town-state-abbreviation

Keywords are “Key” for a Reason

Google values URLs that are relevant. The best way to be relevant is to craft a URL is with the search term directly in it. This matters a lot when it comes to SEO for orthodontists. To clarify, we’re talking about pages within your website, not your homepage or contact page, but content like blogs, landing pages, and service pages. So, if you’re writing a blog with the keyword “Invisalign” you would start your URL with something like:

 

www.fakeorthodonticpractice.com/invisalign

 

Location, Location, Location

The other half of the URL that is equally crucial is the location. Most of the time, people don’t necessarily search for orthodontic practices anywhere –  they search within their town or towns near them. So, going by the example above, your URL will ideally look like this:

 

www.fakeorthodonticpractice.com/invisalign-fake-town-state-abbreviation

 

Stop Using Stop Words 

While not a major issue, stop words can be hindering factors for the success of URLs and can drop your SEO ranks. Stop words are the small, sort of unnecessary words like “a”, “the”, “for”, “to”, etc. Generally, searchers won’t type “Invisalign in Fake Town”. They’ll search “Invisalign Fake Town”. The stop words make it harder for Google to match your URL to the search term.

Short, Sweet, and to the Point

Say you’re writing a blog entitled “Can My Teenager Get Invisalign and How Much Will it Cost?”. Most blogs will auto-generate a URL based on the title, which in this case, will be painstakingly long. Use our formula above, which should keep your URL around 60 characters. This makes it easier for Google to sift through your page and decide if the page is relevant as a search result.
